O Jazz Manouche , também chamado de Gyspy Jazz mundo afora nasceu na década de 1930 com o Hot Club de France, quinteto de Jazz liderado por Django Reinhardt e Stéphane Grappelli .
O grupo tocava temas de Jazz , musicas francesas e suas próprias composições. A sonoridade do grupo era peculiar graças a sua instrumentação: violões Selmer, violino e baixo acústico, e também pela influência da música cigana já que Django e seu irmão Joseph eram ciganos manouches .
Após a morte de Django, em 1953, o estilo perdeu popularidade mas se manteve vivo graças aos seus discípulos, na maioria ciganos. Apesar de poucos admiradores, ganhou força a partir da década de 1990 e hoje tem grande público e muitos seguidores, principalmente na Europa. Provavelmente, graças ao virtusosismo de uma nova geração de músicos, como Bireli Lagrene, Rosenberg Trio, Ângelo Debarre, dentre outros.
Existem vários Hot Clubs espalhados no mundo, sempre homenageando a música do Django e também do Grappelli, inclusive no Brasil.
