Django Reinhardt:
El Gipsy Jazz nace a finales de la década del 20 en los suburbios de Paris, creado por el gran guitarrista belga Django Reinhardt.
Django va a ser el primer músico de jazz originario de Europa que ejerció una influencia similar a la de los grandes artistas estadounidenses. Su música es el resultado de la fusión entre el swing y la tradición musical gitana del este europeo, lo que se conoce en inglés con el nombre de Gypsy jazz y en francés como Jazz manouche (Jazz gitano). Reinhardt revoluciona el toque de guitarra en el jazz sobre la base de un contrabajo, de dos guitarras rítmicas y del violín de Stéphane Grappelli.
La difusión del hot Club en Argentina:
En la década del 40 se dan tres circunstancias que van a resultar fundamentales para la divulgación de este estilo en la Argentina (además de la edición de los discos del Hot Club de Francia): una, tiene que ver con el regreso de Europa de Oscar Alemán en 1940, la segunda, con la llegada a su orquesta del violinista Hernán Oliva en el año 41 y la tercera con la llegada y la estadía en el país del contrabajista del Hot Club de Francia Louis Volá, que se quedará aproximadamente desde el año 1941 hasta 1948 (En Buenos Aires fundó un quinteto como el Hot Club de France, donde grabó con Hernán Oliva). Oscar Alemán y Hernán Oliva van a ser los principales referentes del hot club hasta los años 70.
Algunos de los músicos más importantes de la generación siguiente fueron: el violinista Hector Lopez Furst (una de sus agrupaciones más importantes fue The Blue String), el guitarrista Walter Malosseti (Swing 39, y luego con su carrera solista), y los guitarristas Jorge Lagos(en la década del 50 se radicó en París y convivió con gitanos franceses. Contó haber conocido personalmente a Django Reinhardt), Carlos Chachi Zaragoza ( acompañó a Oscar Alemán y a Hernán Oliva entre otros) y Ricardo Pellikan( Swing 39, y luego con su carrera solista).
En los Años 80 surge en la ciudad de la Plata el grupo Cordal Swing de la mano de Néstor Gómez en la primera guitarra y de Sergio Poli en violín.
En la actualidad el Gipsy Swing goza de muy buena salud en la Argentina, cuenta muchos músicos que lo tocan y un gran número de publico que lo sigue.

Roberto Grela para muchos el mayor guitarrista del tango fue gran admirador de Django, a mediados de los años 40 incursiona en el jazz. El conjunto se llamaba “American Fire”, y estaba integrado por Tito Colón y Bernardo Stalman, entre otros. Este conjunto tuvo presentaciones en diversos lugares durante dos años, hasta su disolución. Grela formó entonces un sexteto, con el mismo tipo de música.
